I made a small guitar amplifier box out of Cherry Wood sides and Walnut top and bottom. The scroll inlays are made from brass. Most of the tiger consist of Mother of Pearl and Green Abalone. The eyes are made from black and gold acrylic and the frame is Hickory and Red Wood.
The amplifier is 2.5 watts powered by a 9v battery and a 4 inch speaker with a red LED light to remind me when I forget to turn it off.
It was a challenge I very much enjoyed taking on as far as finding the right materials to duplicate the correct colors of the ribbons, which is why the majority of materials used for this job were acrylics with a little mother of pearl, brass and recon stone.
The numbers on the green and white ribbon were etched.
Here are close-up shots of each.. sorry the pics aren't all that clear....
Finished Hambone Cigar Box Guitar
The Shane -O- Guitar was built by a good friend of mine who builds cigar box guitars in Dallas, TX. He gave me the opportunity to do the custom inlay work on the fretboard for him. (Thanks again Kevin!)
Butterfly inlays are a lot of fun for me to work on. They aren’t as difficult as some of the more intricate designs. The first butterfly I made looked like something out of a third grade coloring book. The lines were crooked and lopsided and it surprised me that it even resembled a butterfly. But if you looked real close you could make it out!
Materials on these plaques: mother of pearl, green abalone, copper, aluminum, walnut
